Now, to start here’s a little disclaimer – I am absolutely not a professional makeup artist, nor do I think I am! For the most part I am, self-taught with a little help from YouTube & a good friend at Sephora. This is just one of my loves and thought it would be fun to share a little review + my favorite products, tools, my routines, etc.
Ok, so, I am a faaaaan of some winged eyeliner. I really go for a matte, sharp wing. In my opinion the bigger the wing the better the day, unless you have to be at work at six am and have a 6 month old to take care of in the morning… lets just say my face goes sans wing on most work days, but honey, the love affair resumes Friday mornings! For some reason I felt the need to experiment with new products, rather than stick with what I’ve come to love over the last few years. I know what you’re thinking, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Well, I tried to anyways and after going through three different products I don’t really know why since I ended up back where I started!
First up, the NYC liner. I didn’t like this product AT ALL. It is kind of like a pen with an extremely stiff, tapered felt tip. Tried this product once or twice, while the finish was matte, I wasn’t able to reach my desired look. This one hit the can fast. Now, this is a drug store product and I am a pretty big believer in the ol’ saying “you get what you pay for”. Now that statement isn’t always true; however, I found it to be extremely spot-on in this case. The Estée Lauder liner was much harder to apply and didn’t have a matte finish. It has a pretty flexible, tapered felt tip applicator. I finally got the hang of it after some practice, but since I wasn’t thrilled about the finish I was ready to try something else. Of the three new products I tried, Kat Von D was the easiest to apply. Lets just take a minute to talk about how she has taken the makeup world by storm, not to mention her packaging is amaze. This eyeliner has a brush like applicator that goes on fairly easily, which I was excited about. However, what I didn’t like was the finish and for me, it was actually extremely smudgy. Might be because I tend to have oily skin, might not be. Either way, this is actually a product I would recommend, it just wasn’t right for me.
My tried & true – MAC Fluidline
So after all that experimentation, I found myself back to the liner I have loved, currently love and I guess probably will always love. It is MAC Fluidline in blacktrack. I apply it with the MAC 208 angle brush and not only is it fairly easy to apply, it gives me exactly the look I’m going for. Don’t get me wrong, while it is the easiest to apply in my opinion, it doesn’t look perfect all the time. More often than not, though, I can achieve what I’m going for even if it does take me a couple tries.
