In less than a week we will be boarding our plane, on our way to have a much needed family getaway (trying to contain excitement as I type that!). While I’m gearing up for our trip, I’ve been making lists upon lists to ensure we have every single dang thing we could possibly need, mostly for Hudson to be content on a six hour flight and his first flight at that. Here is a little glimpse into one of the most important parts of mamahood, always be prepared, which is also an extremely important part of traveling. Or is that the boyscouts? Either way works for us mamas too. It is a serious production to go anywhere, always triple checking the diaper bag to make sure we have everything we could possibly need. Lets just say I have a big ol’ bag of tricks… I’m kind of Mary Poppins, well all Mamas are really. Am I right or am I right? At this point though, what’s easiest for me is to just always have the diaper bag fully stocked and ready to go, replenishing things as needed. That way all I need to do is throw the bag on my shoulder, grab Hudson & my keys, and we are out the door!
One of the most important items in your bag would have to be diapers and wipes. Trust me, you do not want to be caught without them. We love The Honest Company, plus the cute prints can’t be beat. While I was pregnant I was pricing everything out to see what the cheapest option would be. At the time, I found that doing a Diapers & Wipes bundle package was the biggest bang for our buck. Not to mention the convenience of them being delivered straight to your door.
Ok, here’s the cleaning, protecting, and or disinfecting portion. For me these items are a must. I’m sure you’re looking at the Clorox wipes, thinking: “Oh goodness, she’s one of those moms”. Well you bet your fanny I am! I promise I’m not a germaphobe, there are just some surfaces or places I want to clean before letting Hudson touch. Tell me I’m not alone?! I also love to use the Arm & Hammer wipes to clean off his toys if they fall down outside on a really disgusting ground. Also, a Ziploc bag is a sheer necessity. You know those big pooptastrophies that happen from time to time? These are perfect to toss those contaminated clothes in. An extra onesie and pair of socks follow that perfectly. The other items are pretty self explanatory… on to the next!
Food. Equally as important as ensuring you’re stocked with diapers & wipes. At nine months, Hudson’s still enjoying his fair share of bottles. However, I will also give him tons of solids; including, puffs, crunches, cheerios, and pretty much anything I’m eating. He loves it all. Not much explaining needed here, these are just the things I’m sure to have on hand at any given time. Oh but one more thing, these bibs are seriously the best make sure you get a few for your little one. (I talked about them before here).
Hudson has a few favorites in the toy department. He loves chewing on his Sohpie teether, she’s magic I tell ya! I also like to have a small book, plus he can’t leave the house without his cell phone and keys, of course. I’d recommend picking a few light, noise-free toys to always bring along for the ride. Truthfully, though, Hudson is perfectly content chewing on his seatbelt strap or anything I have. So, I don’t usually overload my bag with toys.
When I am toting around a giant, fully loaded diaper bag I opt not to carry my purse as well. That’s just too much. So I always have a small pouch, containing just my essential items. This is just a bonus, but I find it very helpful for me personally.
Ok, so this was a pretty long one. If you made it through to the end you are the best! I always find things like this help me, so I hope it helped you to be prepared at all times! Thanks for reading. xx
