So, here we are. We’ve survived Monday, and for me, that is a total accomplishment. After having 5 days off, opposed to a normal length weekend, the Monday blues came on extra strong. Anyone with me?! OK back to the project, I’m sure you’re all on pinterest and following along with the obsession for chalkboard everything. I had already purchased a small, framed chalkboard from Etsy when I came up with the idea to create one on my own. Backstory, I have my chalkboard hanging in the kitchen and my mom always mentioned how much she loved it. Well her birthday popped up rather quickly, back in July, and I thought there was nothing better than a handmade gift. So I got to thinking and remembered how much she loved my chalkboard. I’m sure you can guess what happened next..!
…here’s a BIG hint
Follow four simple steps to create a chalkboard for your home!
I used white paint, chalkboard paint, painters tape, paint brushes (although, I’d recommend you use a foam brush as I mentioned here), and a large thrifted frame.
1. Thrift a large frame and clean the glass. (Finding a frame with a removable back is ideal. In that case you would not need to tape off the frame and could remove the glass from frame for painting. Making this project much, much easier).
2. Paint first coat and allow to completely dry – about 4 hours, I know don’t get me started on this patience thing…
3. Apply second coat – again let that baby fully dry.
4. I wanted to paint my frame white, so I kept the tape on and applied 1 coat of paint. This left a worn finish.
ps. Before writing on your brand spankin’ new chalkboard, condition the surface by rubbing the side of a piece of chalk over the entire surface and erase with a damp cloth!
