Well, where do I start! Today is our first day post-Whole30 and, honestly, I am super excited! I am so glad we made it through and I am also glad that we can end this deprivation once and for all. As I mentioned here, deprivation is not for me. I do just fine eating healthy but, normally like to have a cheat day once a week. This method has never hindered my weight loss or progress before so, that is what we’re going to go back to now that we’ve given our bodies the break and restart they truly needed.
I guess the most interesting and exciting (for us) part of the Whole30 are the testimonials that come along with completing the program. I can say that I feel a huge difference in my body, both in the appearance and overall health. I have shed just under 19 lbs and hubby, while lifting weights, lost just shy of 15 lbs. I honestly went into this to give my health a good kick in the pants, not expecting to see such vast results on the scale. For myself, I didn’t really exercise throughout the 30 days on a consistent basis. I would definitely go for walks or do an exercise video here and there, plus chasing around my almost one year old. Let me tell you, by the end of the day I am just about falling into bed! So, sticking with the Whole30 rules you’ll see results whether or not you exercise. Now, of course, I should recommend exercise because our bodies definitely need it. I am just saying for full disclosure what I did and how it worked for me.
Now, there are three things on my mind: 1. What does life look like for me, post Whole30? 2. Let’s go shopping. 3. Being sure to always have something to look forward to. Obviously, one is more important than the other two. Shopping, duh. Wait, health is more important? Right. Ummmm. Ok, so what I am planning on doing is keeping up with the Whole30 rules for the most part but, also allowing myself to have my coffee the way I like (helllloooo soy milk) paired with a once a week cheat day. In addition to these things, I have challenged myself with the Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred. I have done her videos before and while they are intense, they are not impossible. Now that I’ve lost a pretty significant amount of weight, I want to give it my all to keep it off, continue on my weight loss/fitness journey + start tightening things up. What? I had a baby and things (for me, anyways) just aren’t like they were! Where my mamas at?! Number two, shopping. Because, shopping doesn’t need an excuse. Ever. Finally, I feel like it is healthy for us to always have something in the works to look forward to. This one is definitely more a mental thing but, also plays a role in staying committed to eating habits, exercise, and all that jazz. So, how does that really relate to eating healthy and not falling right back into the vat of fast food, rotten ingredients, etc.? For me, even if it is just a short weekend trip or a big vacation, I know I want to feel and look my best no matter what we’re doing. I’ll just be, all around, more comfortable. Trust me, I’ve been on both sides of the spectrum and going out as the best version of myself (inside & out) just feels better on all levels. So really, having a vacation or trip hanging over my head gives me the motivation to keep myself on track, indulge a little while away, and then get right back to it before the next fun event or trip happens. Does that make sense to you? In my head, it makes perfect sense so I hope it translates. Speaking of trips, we have so much fun stuff coming up that I’m sure I’ll be sharing here in weeks to come.
In the meantime, if I leave you with anything I hope it is this: Yes, the Whole30 is extreme; but, taking care of yourself and the benefits that come with that far outweigh that of an unhealthy body. And I’m not talking just weight loss… Even if you don’t have weight to lose, I would recommend this program to anybody who is just looking for a fresh start. I mean the month is going to pass anyways and we’re always talking about how quick time flies, so I challenge you to give it a go!
